Fungai Lupande Court Reporter
A commuter omnibus driver yesterday appeared in court for knocking down a traffic policeman who had signalled him to stop. Titus Chibvongodze (26) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe facing attempted murder charges.

The police officer sustained head injuries and a broken arm.

Chibvongodze was remanded in custody to March 7.

He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecuting, Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on Monday, the police officer was on duty with others at the Grain Marketing Board turn off at the 11-kilometre peg along Mutare Road.

Chibvongodze was driving a Toyota Hiace registration number ADC 7465 when he was signalled to stop.

Instead of slowing down, Chibvongodze accelerated toward the policeman and felled him with the vehicle front bumper.

The policeman hit the ground with his head.
