Kombi owner offers $15 for kids’ upkeep

Noleen Makhurane, Court Reporter
A COMMUTER omnibus owner from Bulawayo yesterday pleaded with the maintenance court to reduce maintenance for his two children from $40 to $15.

Mbonisi Sibanda yesterday dragged his ex-girlfriend Evangelista Madziri to court saying he could no longer afford to fork out $40 monthly for his children.

Sibanda told Magistrate Adelaide Mbeure that he was not employed.

He said his girlfriend was lying that he owns a kombi. “I don’t own a Kombi but I’m just a driver and my licence expired” he said.

Mbeure ordered Madziri to go to Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) to get proof that Sibanda owned a Kombi.

Madziri produced a letter from CVR that proved Sibanda owned a Kombi. Madziri told the court that the $15 was not enough to cater for her children.

Mbeure dismissed Sibanda’s application for variation downwards.
