Kondwani loses again

points to the venomous glove of Namibia’s Martin Haikali in a non-title bout at the Windhoek Country Resort.
The duel was a supporting bout to a non-title duel between that country’s top pugilist, Paulus “The Hitman” Moses and Argentine Miguel Dario Lombardo as part of Namibia’s Independence celebrations.
Prediction of the Kondwani-Haikali duel outcome did not require the services of a bookmaker, as the beleaguered 37-year old Mbare boxer has succumbed to 12 consecutive loses over the past two years.
He has been on the casualty list of Namibian boxers Bethel Ushona (knockout), Albinu Felesianu (unanimous decision) and Jatoorora Tjingaveta (points), among a fair list of other foreign opponents. Kondwani was not up to the task from the first bell and had to dig into his bag of experience to survive to the sixth and final round.
The remaining active boxer from his crop, Kondwani has fought 36 times, winning 19 times and losing 17.
In 2003 he had two shots at the Commonwealth featherweight title, but on both occasions lost away from home to Brian Carr and Nicky Cook.
Last Saturday’s trip to Namibia was not rosy either for former Commonwealth flyweight champion, Alfonso “Mosquito” Zvenyika, who watched from the corner as his new find, Ronald Tamani, picked up a fourth loss.
He lost to Namibia’s Immanuel Naidjala. The participation by Zimbabwean boxers was a sign of a reconciliatory gesture from the Namibians who, two years ago, had vowed not to include Zimbabwean boxers on their cards. This followed a fraudulent act by Zimbabwean officials who sent a team of boxers with doctored medical certificates.
