‘NRL will be better’

will have an exciting schedule this year after they introduced a shorter season but with the same number of games.
The NRL is expected to start on Saturday and come to an end on September 10. Last year the league ran until November due to several breaks when the Sables and the Cheetahs were involved in international assignments. This year will see the league programme continuing when the national team is away.
“We expect a better season compared to last year in terms of play, administration and officiating because we are of the feeling that people are getting more committed to the game with each passing season,” said Kanyangarara.
Old Georgians (then District Dragons) won last year’s league title after beating bitter rivals Harare Sports Club on the final day of action. The Sables manager, however, indicated that there was a higher number of cards issued by the referees last year compared to the previous year.
“Last year there was an upsurge in the number of cards issued by the referees in the games but we are trying as much as we can to educate both the players and the coaches in clean rugby.”
