There are a few days left to see if Zimbabweans will really get to enjoy a live show from Konshens, born Garfield Delano Spence, who cancelled an appearance last year citing Ebola fears although Southern Africa remained largely untouched by the deadly virus.
Delta Beverages marketing manager Patricia Murambinda confirmed the show.
“Everything is now in place for the 120 years of Delta Beverage Brand Celebrations and what is only left is for Konshens to make his way to Zimbabwe.
“We started selling tickets via the online platform last Monday to ease pressure on the day of the show,” said Murambinda.
The fans’ hopes will be buoyed by evidence that Konshens has recently been in Africa. On August 29 he performed a massive sold out show in Uganda, Kampala together with Busy Signal.
It was his third time performing in the East African.
The Jamaican is set to perform at the Castle Lager Summer Celebrations at Old Georgians Sports Club on October 10.
Konshens will touch down on October 8 and should come prepared to make up to his Zimbabwean fans after cancelling his scheduled performance at the Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival show at the eleventh hour last year due saying that his country had restricted travel for its citizens following the Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa.
The Castle Lager Summer Celebration will also feature award-winning South African band Beatenberg which dazzled the audience at this year’s Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA).
Delta Celebrations are being held in conjunction with Musica 2015 co-organised by the Italian Embassy.
The Mozambican celebrated saxophonist and composer Ivan Mazuze, Marco Maggiore from Italy and DJ Dino Moran from South Africa will also be part of the show.
Zimbabwe will be represented by Zimdancehall chanter Winky D, mbira princess Hope Masike and local Afro-rock fusion band Evicted.
Konshens gained international recognition through hits like “Winner”, “Rasta Impostor”, “This Means Money”, “Good Girl Gone Bad”, “Gal Dem A Talk”, “Realest Song”, “Represent”, “Forward” and “Gal a bubble”.
It is high time he meets and thrill his Zimbabwean large base of fans.
