AUDIT and advisory firm KPMG is set to hold its inaugural Audit Forum Committee seminar in Harare early next month to assist members to effectively perform their roles in this ever changing business environment.
Mr Dickson Magombedze, a partner at KPMG Zimbabwe, said key issues from a corporate governance perspective would be discussed during the half-day seminar, which will also coincide with the official launch of the audit committee toolkit.
The toolkit provides insight to users on how to effectively run the audit committee. It also provides practical guidance to audit committees for identifying and achieving their objectives and adding value to their board, the companies and stakeholders.
“Discussions will be mainly centred on trends of global corporate governance, corporate governance from the Zimbabwean perspective and the launch of the audit toolkit,” said Mr Magombedze.
“The interesting thing is that it is not going to be a once off event but we should be periodically hold similar seminars for such discussions.”
KPMG has already established audit forums in most of the 30 countries it is operating.
In South Africa, for instance, the Institute of Directors in Southern Africa in partnership with the KPMG established the Audit Committee Forum, which aims to assist members to be effective in their roles on audit committees through sharing knowledge with their peers, disseminating relevant information and focusing on key performance areas, thereby contributing to the effective governance.
In Namibia, the KPMG also sponsored Audit Committee Forum which aims to discuss matters pertaining to audit committees and looks at ways of implementing and improving the audit committee process. “This has been very successful in other countries and I think we can step in and assist in what needs to be looked at,” said Mr Magombedze.
KPMG offers audit, tax and advisory services and work closely with clients, helping them to mitigate risks and grasp opportunities.
