ZIMBABWE Revenue Authority (Zimra) Deputy Commissioner-General in charge of domestic taxes Happias Kuzvinzwa is set to explain why the revenue authority cannot establish uniform, clear and transparent rules and regulations for dealing with arrears at the Matabeleland Chamber of Industries (MCI) annual general meeting (AGM) at a Bulawayo hotel today.
The AGM is divided into sessions, a closed session for MCI members followed by an open session for the business fraternity.
“The open session will be attended by members and non-members. The Zimra Deputy Commissioner-General Kuzvinzwa will be the guest speaker during the open session of the AGM programme. He will (also) address the business community,” said the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries in a statement.
Besides Kuzvinzwa addressing the uniform, clear and transparent rules and regulations for dealing with arrears rather than the present individual companies’ payment plans, he is also expected to touch on the possibility of a freeze for companies that are struggling to pay long dated historical dues.
Zimra has often come under fire from the Bulawayo business community for garnishing their accounts in the midst of a tough business environment.
They also want the taxman to improve on service efficiency.
Kuzvinzwa is also expected to tackle Zimra’s plan towards curbing of smuggling of goods.
