The fourth edition of the Kwantuthu Comedy Festival is set to take place from October 30 to November 1 under the theme “The 4th Quarter”.
This year’s highlight will be the “Roast of MaForty”, a special event celebrating his decade-long career in comedy.
Kwantuthu Comedy Festival programme curator, Yananai Mavingire, announced that due to last year’s overwhelming attendance, additional venues will be introduced.
The festival, which focuses on schools, aims to promote comedy across various art forms, including music, dance, visual arts, poetry, theatre, and stand-up comedy.
On day one, October 30, it will be Theatre Day where a floating trophy will be introduced for the best high school theatre production.
The participating schools will be announced before the end of the school term. Day two, there will be High School Short Films Screening.
Event organisers said due to increased participation, the screening has been moved to the Zimbabwe Academy of Music to accommodate a larger audience. More schools from different towns will also take part.
Mavingire said for day three, there will be “The Roast of MaForty” to celebrate the comedian’s 10th anniversary in comedy.
“The festival will host a special roast in MaForty’s honour. The Roast Panel has been selected and will be announced soon.”
Mavingire also called on interested schools to register for participation.
“Schools keen on taking part should register before the end of February to secure workshop dates,” he said. —@mthabisi_mthire
