TWO Kwekwe artisanal miners who bludgeoned a man to death with logs during a late-night fight at a mine have been arrested after three days on the run.
Tinotenda Mushoriwa (35) and Christine Ngwarai (49) were tracked down and busted by police following a manhunt sparked by the murder, which took place on 15 Julyl around 10PM.
According to Criminal Investigations Department national spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri, the duo got into a heated dispute with the victim at a mine in Kwekwe, which quickly escalated into a violent fistfight.
“During the altercation, the accused persons picked up logs and struck the victim on the head. He collapsed and died on the spot. The accused fled the scene immediately after,” she said.
The two are now in custody and assisting police with investigations.
In another gruesome killing, detectives from CID Karoi arrested two men — Godfrey Smart (31) and Jorum Rukara (32) — for the murder of a man whose bloodied, naked body was found dumped in a gum tree plantation near Chinyerere Shops.
Det Insp Muteweri said an informant discovered a pool of blood on July 14 while collecting firewood, which led to the horrifying find.
“Smart was arrested first and he implicated his accomplice, Rukara. Investigations showed that on 13 July around 9PM, the accused were drinking beer with the victim when an argument broke out. They murdered him and dumped his body in the bush,” she said.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police have praised members of the public for supplying vital information that helped bring the suspects to justice.
“Communities play a key role in fighting crime. We urge the public to continue reporting any suspicious activities to law enforcement,” added Det Insp Muteweri.
