A KWEKWE man has been given a second chance to fulfill his parental responsibilities after he got a wholly suspended sentence for ignoring a child maintenance order.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the 39-year-old man from Redcliff was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court for contempt of court after failing to comply with a maintenance order.

“On the 3rd of February 2025, the Kwekwe Magistrate’s court ordered the offender to pay maintenance of US$80 monthly for their minor child, whose mother is 19-years-old.

“The offender subsequently failed to comply with this court order, resulting in arrears of US$160,” reads the statement.

The offender was subsequently sentenced to six months imprisonment for the offence, which was wholly suspended on condition he pays the arrears before Friday.
