Kwekwe MP assault case postponed

ZANU-PF Member of Parliament for Kwekwe Central, Cde Masango Matambanadzo was on Monday summoned by the courts for allegedly assaulting his Gokwe-Kana counterpart, Cde Owen “Mudha” Ncube, at Amaveni Shopping center.
The matter, however, could not be heard before the court after lawyers representing the two asked for the postponement of trial to gather more evidence.

A trail date was set for 15 September.
The lawyer representing Cde Ncube, Mr Valentine Mutatu, confirmed that the case had been postponed.
The State’s case is that on 13 July this year at around 5.30pm, Cde Ncube drove his vehicle, a Toyota Hilux twin cab, to Amaveni shopping center in Kwekwe where he met Mr Andrew Kumutitsa, Mr Unique Chidhuza and a group of Zanu PF youths at an open space.

It is alleged that Cde Ncube discouraged the youths from supporting and following Cde Matambanadzo, arguing that he does not have the qualities to be a member of parliament.

Cde Ncube allegedly told the youths that Cde Matambanadzo was not going to retain his parliamentary seat in the next elections. He allegedly mobilized the youths to burn down Cde Matambanadzo’s car, shop and house.

It is alleged that Cde Matambanadzo got a tip-off from one of the youths and drove his car towards Cde Ncube’s car and stopped him.

Cde Matambanadzo, who was in the company of his bodyguard, Beden Mawire (26) and an unidentified accomplice, disembarked from his vehicle and confronted Cde Ncube over the matter.

Cde Ncube is said to have lowered the window of his car and Cde Matambanadzo punched him on his face before his bodyguard also assaulted him with fists.

The Gokwe-Kana legislator sustained a swollen left eye due to the assault.
Cde Ncube proceeded to Amaveni Police station where he reported the assault leading to Cde Matambanadzo’s arrest.

Cde Matambanadzo also reported Cde Ncube for criminal insult.
Cde Ncube has since been dragged to court for insulting Cde Matambanadzo as well as mobilizing youths to perform acts of arson.

Mr Mutatu confirmed that he was representing Cde Ncube in the matter which will be heard before the courts on 16 September.
