CENTRAL Region Division One Soccer outfit, Kwekwe Sables will this coming season not take part in the league because of financial woes.
The teamas two main sponsors, Kwekwe City Council and Sable Chemical Industries have hit hard times as such they cannot fund football operations.
The teamas secretary, Victor Marowa confirmed the development.
a?This coming season we are not taking part in the campaign because of Sable Chemicalsa unhealthy balance sheet,a? said Marowa.
Sable Chemicals used to solely sponsor the club but joined forces with Kwekwe City Council last year hence the birth of Kwekwe Sable FC.
The local authority came in with the provision of Mbizo Stadium as the home ground of the team while the fertiliser manufacturing company chipped in with transport and other necessities.
a?As you are aware the company (Sable) was not fully operational for almost over a year, given such a state of affairs, it became difficult for the company to continue sponsoring the team,a? explained Marowa.
He said the company was in a position to assist with transport if a sponsor comes forth.
a?We wanted to help the youngsters in the community to find something to do so that they desist from roaming the streets but the folding of the team is very unfortunate for the youngsters,a? explained Marowa.
