A Kwekwe taxi operator was attacked by three passengers who had hired him for a trip to Chiwundura before speeding away in his Honda Fit.
The incident occurred along the Kwekwe-Chiwundura Road near the Mlezu turn-off on Sunday at around 4pm.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, saying police were appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
“The victim, Mr Ophias Mandava (49), of Mbizo, Kwekwe, was operating his taxi in Kwekwe Central Business District when he was approached by a man who purportedly wanted to hire him for a trip to the Savannah area in Chiwundura,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the man then travelled with two accomplices, another man and a woman.
“Along the way, near Mlezu turn-off, the trio attacked Mandava, robbed him of cash and a cell phone. They pulled him out of the vehicle and drove off at high speed,” he said.
Mandava subsequently reported the matter to the police, who launched investigations.
“The stolen vehicle was later recovered near Gweru,” said Insp Mahoko.
He appealed to members of the public who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to report at any police station.
