ZIMBABWEAN comedian Learnmore Jonasi is set to take his story to one of South Africa’s biggest podcast platforms when he appears on Podcast and Chill with MacG today.
The appearance comes at a time when Jonasi’s profile continues to rise on the international comedy scene, following his breakthrough run on America’s Got Talent and his recent involvement in Trevor Noah’s South African Savannah Festival of Comedy.
According to a teaser from Podcast and Chill, Jonasi is expected to open up about his journey in comedy, the growth of Zimbabwe’s comedy industry and the experiences that have shaped his career from performing on local stages to becoming an internationally recognised comedian.
He is also set to revisit his memorable America’s Got Talent journey, where he received the Golden Buzzer and went on to finish in the Top Five of the 2024 competition. His run introduced his brand of Zimbabwean humour and African storytelling to a much wider audience.
Another major talking point is likely to be on his well-publicised legal dispute with South African musician and composer Lebo M.
The dispute followed a viral routine in which Jonasi humorously interpreted the opening chant from The Lion King, prompting Lebo M to take legal action against the comedian.
The case became another unexpected chapter in Jonasi’s growing international profile and has since featured prominently in his comedy material.
Jonasi will also reflect on being brought into Trevor Noah’s Bafunny Bafunny South African Festival of Comedy.
Noah selected Jonasi as part of the comedy line-up, which has taken the Zimbabwean comedian onto the same stage as some of South Africa’s established comedy names. The festival is currently touring South Africa, with Jonasi among the performers featured alongside Noah and other leading comedians.
The Podcast and Chill conversation is expected to offer viewers a closer look at the man behind the international success, his experiences in Zimbabwe’s comedy industry and the journey that has taken him from local stages to some of the biggest comedy platforms in the world.
