The school is simultaneously running several initiatives, including a poultry project with over 1000 chickens, a piggery, fish farming, cattle bearing and a garden.
The school principal Rev. Jeremiah Mangiza, said the aim for them is to further broaden this curriculum to widen the options that the students have.
“To parents/guardians, you need to continue supporting learners morally and financially. Some are slow learners with time they will make it.
“Gone are the days we used to scold our children for failing. we need to identify his/her area and give our maximum support.
“We have since moved into the heritage-based curriculum and as a school we are hands-on. The learners are also looking after the broilers, even the garden, the students are part of that.
“We encourage the learners to shy away from drug and substance abuse.
“Indeed, this is tearing our social fabric and can render our nation useless among the community of nations. Let each one of us be a brother’s keeper.”
Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire, was pleased that the school has started a number of projects.
“You have a natural heritage right in front of you that you can effectively use in your learning.
“Within this framework of the heritage-based curriculum, I am also pleased that the school has started projects, ranging from the lucrative pig rearing, gardening, cattle breeding, tuck-shop to fish farming.
“Apart from being commendable sources of income, these progressive projects again enable our learners to have a highly beneficial hands-on experience and this enhances their understanding.
“Vocational Training is one of the areas that fall under my ministry and l can safely say that Kwenda High School is singing a harmonious tune with my ministry since both the subjects you are offering, and the projects that you have, give the youths of this school an array of choices they can pursue when they are done with their education here.
“Our schools must not leave anyone stranded after their education as we seriously pursue our game-changing Vision 2030 of attaining an upper middle-class economy and very importantly, ‘leaving no one behind.’
“No one must be left behind, l repeat, and the area of vocational training is a critical area that is meant to close the gap of lack of career opportunities.
“I understand the school also did very well in the extracurricular activities, and these activities provide our learners with great exciting career opportunities.
“I am challenging you our learners to be the next Khama Billiat, the next Erling Haaland, the next Marvelous Nakamba,” he said.
Fourteen athletes reached the NASH provincial competitions.
Kwenda High School came first in the zonal competitions and led Zone 5 to win the inter-zonal competitions.
However, at provincial level, we had only one athlete with a bronze medal in 100m (Tatenda Shaninga).
Unfortunately, we had none proceeding to the National Level.
In the MESSA competitions that were held at Waddilove High School, we came fourth out of 10 schools with eleven gold medals.
We had four (4) learners qualifying for the provincial competitions in chess.
Kwenda High came in position 6 in the MESCO Quiz and in position 8 in the MESCO choral music competitions. A lot needs to be done in these two areas.
The school was able to procure an athletics kit for athletes and tracksuits for staff members.
