KWESEKA band from Matabeleland North are this year’s winners of the Chibuku Road To Fame talent search after beating 10 other bands at the weekend.

For their efforts the Afro fusion ensemble pocketed US$15 000 plus a recording contract which is expected to propel their efforts to greater heights.

The 10-member group is led by Abundance Mutore, an ex-Mokoomba bassist.

Chinhoyi based group, Boom Jazz, were the first runner-up while Bulawayo’s Music To Music outfit came third.

They walked away with US$10 000 and US$7 500.

In an interview with H-Metro, Mutore said the crowning moment meant a lot for him and his crew.

“This is a culmination of the hard work we have been putting in as a group and we are happy that we have been crowned the Chibuku Road to Fame champions.

“I dedicate this win to the band and want to thank everyone for believing in our joint efforts.

“It’s also a good sign that we are doing the right thing and we are going to invest in our craft so that we become a force to reckon with,” said Mutore.

Mutore thanked organisers Delta Corporation for their continued effort in identifying talent.

“This is the boost that every upcoming artist yearns for and we want to thank Delta Corporation for offering us a chance to shine on their stage,” he said. Delta Corporation marketing director, Irimayi Muzorewa, said this year’s event was exceptional.

“These are the proud moments that as Delta Corporation we always look back at and make want to associate more with local talent.

“Congrats to Kweseka band, they are this year’s winners and wish them well as they grow with the rest of local entertainers, we wish them all the best.

“They showed us their talent, skill and determination which resonates with our mandate to create countless success stories each passing year,” said Muzorewa.

The talent search is held in collaboration with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) to empower aspiring musicians, recognise and reward their art. Chibuku Road To Fame is one of the biggest homegrown talent search programmes.
