KZN to host Metro FM Awards again

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said it was a strategic decision to move the awards to February 23 2013 as a way of trying out a new formula.

“This edition of the awards will be one of the best awards we have ever hosted because of the rich heritage of KwaZulu-Natal,” Kganyago said.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for economic development and tourism Mike Mabuyakhulu was excited that the Metro FM awards were coming back to Durban for the second time, after being hosted in the city in 2003.
“Metro FM is a fundamental brand and it will help us grow our economy.

Through the awards we aim to attract more domestic tourists to the province,” Mabuyakhulu said.
He added that they have a three-year agreement with Metro FM for Durban to be the host city, with a possibility of making the city a permanent home of the awards.

Kganyago said the nominees’ announcement party will be held in Johannesburg on January 17. — Sowetan.
