Apparently, Oliver Mtukudzi was the only artiste to win a Kora Award for his hit “Ndakuvara” in 2001. later township love music Tanga WekwaSando was nominated for the Kora but he lost since then the Kora Awards lost all the lustre as much as the Miss Malaika pageant which was first held in Harare and won by Zimbabwean beauty Brita Masalethulini.
But now the awards have been synonymous with musicians from West African countries like Nigeria where a total of eight musicians including D’banj, Flavour, Omawumi, Chidinma and Davido have been nominated. Other Nigerian acts include gospel singers Rebecca and group Infinity.
Clarence Peters has also been nominated for his creative work on Chidinma’s video “Kedike”.
The awards show failed to hold last year with the producer of the awards Ernest Adjovi being involved in multiple controversies.
