MASHONALAND Central provincial youth officer Mr Elijah Mpofu has bemoaned lack of funding for youths projects, saying this had deprived youths of participating in economic activities.
In an interview on the sidelines of a Green Innovations Facility 2018 road show being spearheaded by the Embassy of Sweden in partnership with the United Nations Children Education Fund and being implemented by Action 24, Boost Fellowship and SNV at Tendayi Hall in Bindura yesterday, Mr Mpofu, said youths as the future leaders should be included in economic activities.
“So far there are no funds, which youths can easily access for their economic empowerment programmes. They are the future and they should be supported now. We are eagerly waiting for the Empowerment Bank to be introduced by Government so that youths from this province can also benefit from the loans. There is a lot of potential among youths especially when it comes to working with the environment.
“We have also intensified our efforts in mobilising youths to actively participate in economic empowerment projects. So far we are working with organisations like the Environmental Management Agency and the response has been very positive,” he said.
In a separate interview, SNV’s sector leader (energy), Mrs Chandirekera Mutubuki-Makuyana said they held road shows across the country conscientising youths about the Green Innovations Hub programme that seeks to tackle challenges of climate change and youth unemployment.
