THE Lady Cheetahs’ scouting for talent nationwide continues as they head to Bulawayo Province this weekend in search of the next generation of the seven’s rugby squad.
The two-day trial session will run from 16 to 17 November at Hartsfield rugby grounds.
Bulawayo will be the second locality for the scouting after Mutare who held the first trials of the campaign last weekend at Mutare Sports Club.
Zimbabwe women’s sevens rugby team head coach Dereck Chiwara said: “This campaign is the beginning of a solid four-year plan to see Zimbabwe being a dominant force in Africa and competing in major tournaments. It’s a building phase and we are targeting the young generation from 17 years.”
He continued: “The reason for conducting trials is to leave no stone unturned and offer an opportunity to every woman who believes they have what it takes. It’s time to regain the status of the rugby future of Zimbabwe and increase the player base of the nation.
“We are looking at having a core squad of 30 women to work with and as for the trials we are looking at as many as the Bulawayo Province can offer,” said Chiwara.
The scouting campaign will end at Harare SportS Club in the capital over a three-day period at the end of this month.
Zimbabwe’s Lady Cheetahs dropped three places down the ladder to assume position eight in the Rugby Africa Women’s sevens contest that took place in Monastir, Tunisia from 12 to 13 October.
