Lady Chevrons in painful defeat

It was case of so near yet so far for the Zimbabwe as they suffered a painful one run defeat at the hands of Thailand in their second 2026 Women’s Global World Cup qualifier early today.

The defeat was Zimbabwe second in as many matches, living their chances for qualification hanging in balance.

Top four teams from the eight battling it out for qualification will secure a place at the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.

After winning the toss, the Lady Chevrons opted to field first, sending Thailand to bat first.

Zimbabwe’s bowling innings started on high as they claimed the first wicket with second ball of the innings.

Despite an early scare, Thailand managed to take control of the innings, scoring 48 runs before losing their second wicket of the day in the 8th over.

They went on to lose five more wickets after the half-way mark before being restricted to a modest score of 115 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing that modest target and needing 116 runs in 20-overs to win, Zimbabwe fell short by two runs to secure their first win in the global qualifiers as they were restricted to 114 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Modester Mupachikwa led Zimbabwe’s chase top scoring for the Lady Chevrons with 36 off 49 balls, but it was all in vain.

Kelis Ndlovhu was the second run scorer for Zimbabwe, with 28 runs off 25 balls.
