ZIMBABWE got their Rugby Africa Women’s Cup to the worst possible start, going down 41-0 to Uganda Kyadondo Rugby Grounds on Wednesday.
The two nations are expected to square off in back-to-back encounters, with the second game slated for Sunday.
This year’s Rugby Africa Women’s Cup marks the first time that the women’s national rugby teams in Africa will be in action at the same time as their male counterparts after the continental governing body, Rugby Africa, released a unified calendar for the men and women’s 15s version of the game.
The Munyaradzi Mhonda-coached side was the first local rugby side to return to competitive action, as they begin their journey towards qualifying for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup, and appeared out of sorts from kick off right up to the end.
They conceded seven tries, three of which were converted, and spent the most part camped in their own half being guilty way too many turn-overs, missed tackles, and some unforgivable schoolgirl errors.
Mhonda will have the next couple of days to right those wrongs, and get his charges in line, before the two teams meet again on July 18.
