AFRO-POP artiste Lamas Ellz has returned to the music scene with a new single titled Uyajola, after taking a year-long break from the public eye.
The Bulawayo-based musician stepped away from the spotlight after performing at last year’s Bulawayo Arts Festival (BAF) Amakhosi Night.
His latest release, which features Chamhembe hitmaker Cammeh, marks the beginning of a new chapter for the artiste.
Produced by Collin, Uyajola runs for five minutes and nine seconds and blends Amapiano rhythms with emotive storytelling.
The song explores love, relationships and infidelity, while also touching on healing and rebuilding trust.
Lamas Ellz said his time away from the music scene allowed him to reflect on his career and focus on his craft.
“That quiet period after Summer Vibe with Sandra Ndebele and Mzoe 7 in 2025 was a time of reflection for me. I took a step back to rediscover myself and realign with my purpose.
“During that time I focused on my craft, and for the first time in my career, I was able to work on a full body of work that I’ll be releasing later this year. Uyajola is the first single from that project — it’s my way of letting the audience know what’s coming next,” he said.
The song draws inspiration from Thoko, the 1993 classic by legendary South African group Mahotella Queens.
Lamas Ellz said the group’s music has a special place in his heart because it was a favourite of his late aunt.
“As for Mahotella Queens, yes, I’m a fan. Their music was also my late aunt’s favourite, so their sound holds a very special place in my heart. There’s a timelessness to their artistry that I respect a lot,” he said.
Lamas Ellz said he chose to work with Cammeh because of her consistency and work ethic.
“I chose to work with Cammeh because I deeply admire her work ethic and resilience. Since her hit Chamhembe, she has remained one of the most consistent and hardworking female artistes in the industry. She’s weathered challenges and changes with grace, and that inspires me,” he said.
Meanwhile, the muso said he is preparing to release an Afro-R&B EP titled Rhythm In Ndebele, which will focus on Ndebele storytelling and expression.
“2026 is shaping up to be a big year. With summer around the corner, I’m preparing to release my Afro-R&B EP titled Rhythm In Ndebele,” he said.
