Land reform improves livelihoods: Governor

Speaking at the Seed Co, Murigadzose Bumper-to-Bumper Harvest Promotion prize-giving ceremony in Kadoma on Monday, Governor Chidarikire hailed President Mugabe’s commitment to empowering all Zimbabweans.
“Though our President faced a lot of criticism from several Western countries, he made tireless efforts for every Zimbabwean to have a piece of land,” he said.
He urged farmers to keep acqui-ring knowledge as it was key to success.
“Government is also concerned with the current climatic changes that have affected the aggregate output of the country’s fields.
“We urge farmers to make use of Agritex officers and field days such as these to be well informed and up to date,” he said.
Seventy-four-year-old farmer Mr Lucias Mafara scooped the top prize of a 55-horse power tractor in the Seed Co promotion.
His Agritex officer, Ms Memory Machena, walked away with a motor cycle.
First runner-up Mr Joseph Mpofu of Bulawayo won a grinding mill and a generator while the second runner-up, Ms Naomi Zimunya of Mutare, won a grinding mill.
In all, 10 farmers and their Agritex officers from across the country received generators and motor bikes.
Mr Mafara said he was overwhelmed by his latest acquisition.
He grows maize on two and a half hectares of land due to lack of resources but he plans to increase.
“This has been the greatest moment in my life, I can now even help my neighbours,” he added.
