Landlord beaten for drinking tenant’s opaque beer

A Bulawayo man severely assaulted his landlord for drinking his beer, a court heard recently. Edison Zvotowona, 36, of Nkulumane suburb allegedly bashed his landlord, Victor Sibanda, 35, after he gulped down the opaque beer he was sharing with his friends.

“I went to them and asked for beer and they refused to give me some. Edison just stood up and punched me several times all over the body before I fell down” said Sibanda.

Zvotowona, a driver, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso facing physical abuse charges.

Chimiso did not ask him to plead and remanded him in custody to Monday.

Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza told the court that on May 15 at around 3.30PM Zvotowona was drinking beer with his friends Clement Chinyoka and “SaTrisha.”

“The complainant approached them asking to join them but they refused. The complainant went on to grab a mug of beer and gulped the beer. This irked the accused who allegedly punched the complainant in the face several times and he fell down,” said Mageza.

“The complainant sustained a swollen upper lip and face. He was referred to United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) for treatment.”
