A MAN from Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo was dragged to court on Thursday for allegedly striking his tenant several times with an iron bar on the head over failure to pay rent.

Wellington Zenga, 25, told Bulawayo provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa that he assaulted Gift Ngwenya, 44, for failing to settle his rentals.

Ngwenya sustained head injuries and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

The amount that Zenga is owed was not disclosed in court.

“Your worship I always have a fight with Ngwenya because he fails to pay rent on time. I’ve given him notice time and again but he doesn’t want to move out of the house,” said Zenga.

Magistrate Msipa remanded Zenga out of custody to December 4. He, however, advised him to desist from taking the law into his own hands and urged him to apply for an eviction order if his tenant is giving him problems.
