A LANDLORD has dragged her tenant to court claiming he is using his position as a Government employee to harass her, cause mayhem at her house and refusing to pay his rent.
Princess Chatira told the Harare Civil Court that she needed a protection order against her tenant Tonderai Chiwadza.
Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted the protection order.
Chatira testified that Chiwadza has been threatening her saying he is a powerful Government official.
“He uses his job to threaten me.
“Tonderai did not pay his January rental and I have given him a notice to vacate my premises by January 31.”
She claimed on December 28, Chiwadza blocked all tenants from using the gate, saying no one was supposed to leave or enter the house.
“He sent me a threatening message on my phone, saying he was going to attend a Government meeting and was going to return home late.
“He said if I did not open the gate for him, he would assault me.
“I am not scared of him, I am also related to high-profile individuals just like him.
“He keeps threatening my tenants.”
Chiwadza denied the allegations.
“I work with a company dealing with women’s rights.
“Yes, I sent her a message when I had a meeting, but I did not threaten her.”
Chiwadza claimed he had a good relationship with Chatira, citing instances when he had asked her about her Christmas plans and offered to take her out.
Magistrate Naratom advised Chiwadza that using his job to threaten others was a serious offence.
