A 24-YEAR-OLD man, Tanaka Musiiwa, was fatally stabbed by his landlord, Aleck Chaminuka (25), following accusations of being involved in a romantic relationship with the latter’s wife.

The altercation began when Chaminuka accused Musiiwa of having an affair with his wife, Caroline Hofisi (23).

Chaminuka returned home to find no food prepared by Hofisi, who had just come back from church.

An argument ensued, leading Hofisi to seek refuge in Musiiwa’s room, where she was welcomed by his wife, Portia Dzigahwi (19).

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the matter.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a case of murder where a 24-year-old man was stabbed and pronounced dead upon arrival at the Mvuma Hospital.

“The incident occurred in Mushayabvudzi residential suburb, Mvuma, on 31 January at about 8pm,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said Chaminuka was Musiiwa’s landlord.

“Circumstances are that on January 31 at around 8pm, Chaminuka arrived home from Chivhu, where he works, and discovered that his wife, Caroline Hofisi had not prepared food for him,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said Hofisi indicated that she had not yet prepared food since she had just arrived from church.

He said an argument arose, with Hofisi seeking refuge in Musiiwa’s room, where she was received by his wife Dzigahwi.

Insp Mahoko said Dzigahwi then informed her husband about the dispute between Chaminuka and Hofisi.

“Later, Musiiwa arrived home and Chaminuka accused him (the lodger) of being in love with his wife.

“An altercation ensued between the two while their wives were inside Musiiwa’s bedroom,” he said.

The situation escalated, and according to Insp Mahoko, Chaminuka then allegedly took a knife and stabbed Musiiwa once.

Neighbors rushed Musiiwa to Mvuma District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Chaminuka has since been arrested and is in police custody as investigations continue.

Said Insp Mahoko: “Once again, we call upon members of the public to resolve disputes in a peaceful manner.”
