SOME victims of landmines have received groceries from the Government as part of its pledge to continue providing assistance to those who have been affected.
The groceries were handed over by the Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Mercy Dinha.
The groceries include a variety of essentials such as mealie meal, cooking oil, beverages, rice, sugar and flour.
Speaking at the Zimbabwe National Stakeholder Dialogue on demining and mine victims, Dep Min Dinha said more ork needs to be done to ensure that landmine victims receive the necessary support and care.
“To address this, we pledge to continue providing medical care, rehabilitation and psychosocial support, as well as social assistance to those affected,” she said.
“Empowering landmine survivors and persons with disabilities is also a key priority.”
Dep Min Dinha said Government’s mission was to ensure that victims have equal access to economic opportunities and social empowerment.
“To achieve this, the Government plans to create and share a harmonised database of landmine victims, which will enable targeted support and services,” she said.
“This database will not only enhance our response to the needs of landmine victims and persons with disabilities but also contribute to the broader goal of promoting inclusive and sustainable development in our nation.”
