ZANU PF Matabeleland South Youth League chairman Cde Moses Langa will represent the ruling party in Insiza North constituency by-elections after he won the primary elections on Saturday.
Cde Langa got 2 478 votes while his nearest rival, Cde Delani Moyo (Ward 13), had 1 564 votes.
Cde Qhubani Moyo came third after garnering 983 votes, Cde Davison Moyo 271 votes, Cde Sifiso Mpofu 157 votes, Cde Nkosana Mthunzi 97 votes, and Cde Ernest Ncube 16 votes.
Cde Langa is the son of ZANU PF Central Committee member Cde Andrew Langa.
He clinched the party ticket in hotly contested primary elections, marking his official entry into mainstream politics.
The Nomination Court is expected to sit on May 15, after which the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) will announce the date for the by-election.
The by-election follows the death of Cde Farai Taruvinga, who was the Member of Parliament for the area.
Cde Taruvinga (53) died at his family home in Hillside suburb, Bulawayo, after battling cancer.
He had represented the constituency since 2018 and was a vocal figure in the National Assembly on developmental issues affecting Matabeleland South.
In an interview, Cde Langa pledged to honour Cde Taruvinga’s legacy while focusing on rural development, youth empowerment and infrastructure rehabilitation in the constituency.
“This is not just a personal victory; it is a call to service.
“I am committed to ensuring Insiza North becomes a model of rural transformation. I am ready to represent the party in the upcoming by-election. I want to retain the seat for ZANU PF,” said Cde Langa.
Cde Langa is confident of returning to ZANU PF.
The ZANU PF-led Government is taking the lead in infrastructure development across the country, such as rural electrification and the Solarised Presidential Borehole drilling scheme. Meanwhile, opposition parties have yet to declare their candidates for the by-election.
