Late night ‘uncle’ call earns woman beating

A BULAWAYO man bashed his wife after she allegedly received a phone call at night from an unknown “malume” (uncle) who turned out to be her secret lover.
Richard Chimuka, 34, appeared before Western Commonage provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo facing physical abuse charges for assaulting his wife Beatrice Muchineripi, 30.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to three months in prison wholly suspended for five years on condition he does not commit a similar offence.

Chimuka told the court that he had discovered that his wife was cheating on him.

“We were sleeping and my wife received a call from a contact that was saved as ‘malume’ in her phone. She deliberately cut it off and I asked her who was calling her at that time of the night. She told me it was her malume but I don’t know that malume.

“The ‘malume’ called again and asked her why she wasn’t answering her phone since she told him she stays alone. That’s when I got angry and beat her up. It’s painful to discover your wife is cheating on you. Your Worship, please be lenient with me,” he said.
