LATE POST: Heroines’ death a blow to Manicaland

MANICALAND province has been dealt a heavy double blow with the passing on of Cdes Victoria Chitepo and Vivian Mwashita last Friday who were both declared national heroines.

The two will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on Wednesday.

Cde Mwashita, a decorated war veteran and former Zanu-PF legislator for Sunningdale hailed from Headman Newanji’s Village under Chief Mutasa while Cde Chitepo from Bonda Mission also under Mutasa District was found dead in the bathroom of her Mt Pleasant house.

Cde Mwashita who was 58 joined the liberation struggle in 1975 and after training she was deployed in Rushinga where she operated until the end of the war. At Independence, Cde Mwashita joined the Office of the President and later mainstream politics and became the legislator for Sunningdale and later Senator.

She is survived by her husband Mr Peter Muchicho, three children and six grandchildren.
