LATEST: 50 more people succumb to Covid-19

THE country recorded 50 more deaths and 2 683 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24-hour reporting cycle.

All cases are local transmissions.

The country has so far recorded a total number of 88 415 cases and 2 747 deaths since the first case in March last year.

The seven day rolling average for new cases fell to 2 163 from 2 186 the previous day.

There were 2 441 new recoveries with the National Recovery Rate at 66 percent while active cases went up to 27 513 from 27 321 the previous day.

A total of 11 254 PCR tests were done and positivity was 21,7 percent.

Harare had the highest 14 deaths followed by Midlands which had 10 despite having the lowest 103 number of new cases compared to other provinces.

Bulawayo recorded nine deaths, Mashonaland West four while Matabeleland North and Mashonaland Central had three each.

Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Masvingo had two each while Matabeleland South had one.

Mashonaland West, which has surpassed Bulawayo (9 970) and is number two to Harare (19 901) in terms of cumulative cases as it has 12 639, recorded the highest 397 new cases.

The vaccination programme is continuing countrywide with 63 059 people receiving their first dose and 6 640 getting their second yesterday, giving a total of 1 247 494 and 649 843 people who have received the first and second jab respectively.

As of July 19, 2021 at 3PM, there were 811 people who were hospitalised with 109 new admissions. Those who were asymptomatic were 259 while 432 had mild and moderate symptoms and 97 were severe.

Twenty-three were admitted in Intensive Care Units (ICU).

“As of 20 July 2021, Zimbabwe has now recorded 88 415 confirmed cases, 58 155 recoveries and 2 747 deaths,” reads the statement from the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
