ZIMBABWE remain rooted at the bottom of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League log standings after suffering a one-day international (ODI) home series whitewash against Bangladesh.

The Chevrons lost the series 3-0, denting their hopes of securing automatic qualification for the Cricket World Cup.

They anchor the 13-team table with just 10 points from six ODIs.

Bangladesh, who took 30 points from the three-match series, are second with 80 points from 12 matches.

The Tigers are just 15 points adrift of log leaders England, who are on 95 points.

The Super League is a new ODI competition, which takes place across two years and aims to raise the stakes of bilateral 50-over games.

In its first edition, the Super League will help decide which teams feature in the men’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

The Super League features 13 teams comprising 12 ICC Full Members and the Netherlands, who qualified by winning the 2015-17 ICC World Cricket League Championship.

Under the Super League, teams will play eight three-match series each, four at home and four away. Each team gets 10 points for a win, five for a tie/no result/abandonment and nothing for a loss.

Teams that fail to qualify directly will get a second shot through a qualifier.

India, who will host the 2023 Cricket World Cup, and the top seven teams will automatically qualify, while the bottom five will play a qualifying tournament, which will also feature the best teams from the lower rungs of the competition. – @innocentskizoe
