Harare – Roman Catholic nuns who run Monte Cassino and Sacred Heart high schools on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on President Robert Mugabe at State House. President Robert Mugabe financed construction of a dormitory at the Roman Catholic-run Sacred Heart Girls High School in Umzingwane district, Matabeleland South province.

He also donated a perimeter fence to the school, whose construction started last year.

Speaking to the media after a lengthy meeting with President Mugabe, Sister Maria Dingi, who was leading the delegation of 18 nuns, said they had discussed various issues.

“We actually came to say thank you to the President for a donated hostel for one of our schools, Sacred Heart,” she said.

“We also just wanted to discuss with him as stakeholders in education, share with him our joys, share with him our vision and also share with him our challenges in the field of education as partners.”

The nuns also took the opportunity to congratulate President Mugabe on attaining 90 years in February and for the wedding of his daughter Bona to Simba Chikore last month.

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Dr Ignatius Chombo also attended the meeting. New Ziana
