LATEST: Govt to assist media houses

Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister said Government was looking at ways of assisting media organisations, most of whom are facing viability problems due to the economic challenges facing the country.

Professor made the remarks during the general meeting of the Zimbabwe National Editors Forum on Friday.

“We want to find ways of helping the media in Zimbabwe.

“We want to help the sector to be viable. The viability of the sector is a major concern for us. We are very concerned that virtually all media houses are facing serious viability problems and if those problems are not addressed especially by us on the policy side, we are going to see the collapse of media houses especially newspapers,” he said.

Prof Moyo also said his ministry would align all laws under its armpit  by the end of the year, adding the country was on course to meet the International Telecommunications Union deadline to digitilise transmission by June 17.

The AGM was attended by editors drawn from various media houses in the country….more details to follow.
