Blazing dancehall chanter Guspy Warrior, real name Emmanuel Manyeruke, believes he has set the pace for dancehall music. This follows his revelation that dancehall music is not at its highest peak as some may say.
“I can’t say that dancehall music is at its highest peak, but after the launch of my sixth album titled Wedzera Mawatts on Thursday, it will be.”
The Seunononga hitmaker is set to release his album on Star FM and launch it at the Harare Gardens on Saturday.
Wedzera Mawatts has 12 tracks which feature Jah Prayzah in a love song called Love Yako.
The chanter also features Msengezi High School Choir (his former school) in a song titled Vana Inhaka.
“I also did one of my father’s gospel song with him. It has a reggae beat and has gospel lyrics. My father has a clear view of what art is. In regards to me singing my type of music and he said kana uchirima chibage woita hurudza mwana wako akatevera orima fodya oiita hurudza mese muri varimi, chasiyana imbeu.”
Guspy also highlighted that he is a Christian who is also a Rastafarian and does not take alcohol but is not judgmental towards those that take it.
“I also did a song for those that take alcohol. Many a times those people are judged but I don’t judge them.”
The musician noted that the album’s lyrics are “clean”.
“My music is clean. With Seunononga I get inspiration from kongonya, a dance that has always been around. Seunononga is just a simple dance where you bend down and dance.”
Wedzera Mawatts was produced by Legendary Music Sounds.
