Sungura musician Josphat Somanje has been arrested for eight alleged counts of raping his wife, police have said.
Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo today confirmed Somanje’s arrest.
He said Somanje (47) is currently in custody assisting police with investigations.
“We arrested Somanje of 2362 Dzidzai Street Cherutombo in Marondera following a report by his wife that he had been allegedly forcing her to have anal sexual intercourse with him since last year.
“His wife indicated that up to date the musician forcibly had anal sexual intercourse with her eight times,” Inspector Muzondo said.
It is alleged that on an unknown date between April 2013 and January 2014 the “This Time (Haulume)” hit maker had been demanding anal sexual intercourse with his wife and threatening to evict her at their matrimonial house if she refused.
With the threats the musician allegedly had anal sexual intercourse with his wife eight times without her consent.
The matter came to light on March 14 when his wife reported the matter at Marondera Central police station which led to his arrest.
His wife was referred to Marondera General Hospital for medical examination.
