LATEST: Limpopo community vows not to vote

protest1JOHANNESBURG – Special voting remains suspended in Lorraine and the surrounding villages outside Tzaneen in Limpopo on Tuesday. This comes after protesting residents blockaded the road with stones, uprooted street lights and other objects.

Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha and some MEC’s are expected to meet with local chief Kgosi Solly Sekororo whose villages are affected.

The residents’ concern revolves around the building of a shopping complex on a disputed piece of land.

Scores of residents have gathered in Lorraine where they are waiting for an outcome of the meeting which will be held between Sekororo and Mathabatha on Tuesday morning.

Mathabatha spokesperson Kenny Mathivha says the meeting is aimed at convincing the protesters to suspend their action so as to allow Wednesday’s general elections to continue in the area.
