“Investigations are still going on and we are also waiting for the results to ascertain the cause of the fire,” Mrs Dadzie said.
Only one patient was in the ward at the time of the explosion.
“What we can say at the moment is that people on the ground managed to contain the fire before it spread to other wards, hence only one ward was affected,” she said.
Mrs Dadzie said no person was injured in the fire but said there were damages to some of the property.
She, however, did not state the magnitude of the damage.
The patient who was in the affected ward has since been transferred by her relatives to a private hospital in Harare.
Patients and staff at the hospital had a scare of their lives on Tuesday after an explosion that resulted in smoke engulfing the hospital’s Ward D4 during the visiting hour.
Some patients and their relatives, who were forced to scurry for cover, were quickly evacuated, with the hospital officials saying no one was injured.
