Court Reporter
A Harare woman refunded her husband his lobola after their marriage had turned abusive and irreconcilable, the Civil Court heard today. A Harare woman told the court that she refunded her abusive former husband the money he paid as bride price to her parents.Mary James said this at Harare Civil Court where she was seeking a protection order against her former husband Tendai Borowondo.

“He is my former husband and we separated eight months ago because he would vandalise my property, assault me and hire gangsters to attack me. After we separated he came with a car that was loaded with people he wanted to attack me and I followed him.

“Last year, he demanded the US$400 bride price he paid to my parents and I gave him thinking he was going to leave me alone. At one time I returned home from work and found he had placed three calabashes within my premises,” James told the court.

She further narrated that Borowondo was in the habit of jumping over the gate, vandalising the doors and slept in the house she bought after they separated.

In his defence, Borowondo said he had not separated with James and were happily staying as husband and wife.

“We came today from the same house and sleeping on the same bed but I am not eating the food she cooks. I have since bought a beast which I want to give her parents as an apology token so that we could mend our relationship,” he said.

Magistrate Ms Rekinah Dzikiti ordered Borowondo to keep peace and stop assaulting James.

She advised the pair to follow proper channels of divorcing.
