THE Zanu-PF Politburo on Thursday reversed a decision compelling the winning and losing candidates in the National Assembly to return cars they were given by the party to use during campaigns for the July 31 elections. Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Cde Didymus Mutasa on Friday confirmed that the Politburo had reversed the decision.
“Yes, the Politburo said all those who got the cars should keep them,” he said.

He, however, could not say whether the losing candidates would keep the cars. Zanu-PF Chief Whip in the National Assembly Cde Joram Gumbo, welcomed the Politburo’s decision.

“The decision by the Politburo is most welcome because as you know the legislators are yet to receive cars under the Parliamentary vehicle loan scheme so they would have found it difficult to work in their constituencies when they are not mobile,” he said.

“I just want to urge those who have the cars to use them properly and for party business so that come 2018 we win all the seats we did not win in the past election.”

He thanked the President Mugabe and the entire party leadership for the decision and added that all the legislators now had no reason to underperform in their constituencies.

The revolutionary party provided vehicles to its 210 candidates in the harmonised elections and Cde Mutasa had last month ordered them to return the vehicles.
