A LATVIAN man appeared in court yesterday over drug charges.
He was remanded to October 24 to allow the State to find an interpreter.
Vitalis Kudrjasovs, appeared before Harare magistrate Taurai Manuwere, who could not entertain a bail hearing because of the language barrier.
The court heard that on September 8, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, received information that Kudrjasovs was in possession of heroin at the Robert Mugabe International Airport, which he intended to transport to India.
Kudrjasovs went through the security checks to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to India.
He had a small black bag and a larger black traveling bag.
His bags were scanned and the scanner detected suspicious content in the bag.
His bags were searched and the police recovered the heroin, which was stuffed in the lining of the bag, leading to his arrest.
The recovered heroin weighed 8kgs and is worth over US$6 million.
Lancelot Mutsokoti appeared for the State.
