Uncle rapes Grade 6 niece, jailed 12 years

A CHINHOYI man was jailed for an effective 12 years after being convicted of raping his Grade 6 niece.

Samson Mbuzi (21) was found guilty of rape when he appeared before Chinhoyi regional magistrate, Ignatius Mugova.

He was sentenced to 15 years with three years being suspended, for five years, on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Mollen Chitsiga told the court that sometime in March 2022, Mbuzi and the juvenile were asleep in the same room, but in separate blankets.

During the night, Mbuzi crawled into the juvenile’s blankets and raped her once.

She did not tell anyone.

Sometime, on April 9, 2022, the girl was found in Mbuzi’s bedroom, during the night, by her other uncle.

She narrated her ordeal.

The uncle reported the offence to the police, leading to Mbuzi’s arrest.
