Law on alcohol not solution

Soon, a law is going to be passed that will make it a crime to sell alcohol after 7pm! We all know the dangers and vices brought by alcohol.

It is true that drunken drivers cause more than 95 percent of our road carnage and most of them do happen during the night! Most unwanted pregnancies are a result of alcohol. The spread of HIV is catalysed by our behaviour when we are drunk. The list is endless!

Forbidden fruit tastes sweetest.

The other side of the same coin — the moment we remove alcohol from the market from 7pm we will create more problems in society than already there.

Number one vice is the creation of illegal outlets of alcohol — sheebens.

The use of other illegal drugs, which are readily available will flourish — the use of such drugs as marijuana, heroin and other more dangerous drugs.

To have a sober nation we should keep on giving the nation awareness and highlighting the effects and dangers brought about by drinking alcohol. To have an HIV and Aids free generation, we are not banning sex or limiting it, but we are preaching the dangers brought about by having unprotected sex.

Lovemore Andrew Magaso.
