Two Harare lawyers have lost property worth thousands of dollars after they failed to repay their debts. The two are Mr Tapiwa Mudambanuki of Mudambanuki and Associates and Mr Ephraim Mugugu of Mugugu and Associates Legal Practitioners. Mr Mudambanuki lost household furniture after a ruling was made in favour of the Construction Industry Pension Fund under case number HC224/12.
Mr Mugugu lost an assortment of office furniture to Mr David Tendai Matipano under case number HC2280/14.
The property belonging to Mr Mudambanuki, which was auctioned yesterday at Ruby Auctions after it was attached by the Deputy Sheriff, included a Capri refrigerator, Defy deep-freezer, a three-piece television stand, Sony plasma television and a two-piece maroon leather lounge suite.
The other property included a four-piece beige leather lounge suite, Capri microwave, two-piece dresser, seven dining chairs and a glass-topped coffee table.
Mr Mugugu lost office furniture, which included two desktop computers, a laptop, eight office chairs, two office desks, three printers, Hisense refrigerator, three cabinet files, a centre glass table and a carpet.
Several institutions and businesspeople are losing property for failing to manage their debts.
Suspended Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation chief executive Mr Happison Muchechetere had his tractor attached by Chinhoyi Deputy Sheriff while Caps United boss Twine Phiri had an assortment of office furniture auctioned for failure to settle a debt to a marketing firm.
The Zimbabwe Football Association also had its property attached at Zifa Village by the Deputy Sheriff for failing to pay a US$88 000 arbitration award to former communications manager Nicolette Moyo-Dhlamini.
Former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr Gideon Gono, also had his combine harvester attached over an undisclosed amount of money and Marondera businessman, politician and leader of the Johanne Masowe YeChishanu Apostolic sect Cde Lawrence Katsiru lost farm implements and livestock worth nearly US$100 000 which the Deputy Sheriff attached after he failed to settle a debt with Tian Ze Tobacco Company.
