EMOTIONAL stability is one of the core principles that every pastor has to have. We all understand that the calling of a pastor is sometimes not easy. Pastors are called to shepherd sheep who are not always easy to lead. They have to be patient and longsuffering with people who sometimes do not even appreciate the work and effort that pastors put into leading the church. Smiling at, loving and teaching people who gossip them and even attack their children at times is no easy feat. Many pastors’ children are known to be rebellious and wayward because of the expectations placed on them and many other issues in the church. This places extra pressure on the man of God and allows even more criticism from some congregants and unsaved people. It is possible to even come to an empty church and people will ridicule and mock you. Grief and sorrow are part of pastoral ministry. People are problematic and can be dangerous gossipers. Even those who are near you might just want to use you or to twist your words.
The bigger your ministry is the more you have to rely on God. A thousand people means a thousand problems.
Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high (places). (KJV)
There are people who want you down and out so you have to be strong in the Lord. Do not fight those who fight you, instead just love them and God Himself will fight for you and He does! As children of God, we are sometimes found fighting battles while the enemy is winning wars.
Psalm 62:8
Trust in him at all times; (ye) people, pour out your heart before him: God ?(is) a refuge for us. Selah. (KJV)
If a pastor’s emotions are not healed there is a huge impact on the church. Churches rise and fall because of the emotional state of pastors. As a pastor the church is only as healthy as your soul. The church cannot be healthy when your soul is not healthy. Emotions are the ones that define the state of a church. Psychic responses are automatic responses that come when you experience something inside or outside.
