WATERSHED College learners, under the auspices of the Alpha Leo Club, have constructed a new block of two classrooms for Bromley Primary School in Goromonzi District.
The initiative addresses the critical issue of overcrowded classrooms at the school.
Founded in 1956, Bromley Primary School has struggled to accommodate all its learners, with some grades sharing a single classroom, which compromises the quality of education.
Recognising this urgent need, the Alpha Leo Club organised fundraising efforts to support the construction project.
The newly-built classroom block was recently inaugurated by Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, the Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution.
He praised the club for its initiative.
“As a province, we commend Watershed College learners for this generous gesture. We know that learners at Bromley Primary have faced classroom challenges for a long time. However, Watershed College took this challenge to heart and mobilised resources for the construction of this new block,” he said.
Adv Ndudzo also commended the school’s management for fostering a spirit of community service among learners, emphasising that this effort will significantly enhance the quality of education for Bromley learners.
Vice president of the Watershed College Alpha Leo Club, Tawonaishe Shange, expressed the group’s motivation for the project.
“After realising that learners were overcrowded in one classroom, we felt compelled to act. This classroom block will benefit students today and for generations to come. To the learners, this classroom block is yours.”
Observers say the initiative exemplifies the positive impact of community engagement and the commitment of young people to improve educational facilities for their peers.
