INSPIRED by the late music icons — Mbira Queen, America’s Jhene Aiko and Ammara Brown, a Bulawayo-born up-and-coming songstress Lee McHoney has her eyes set on shaking the showbiz industry.

“I adore those musical queens’ styles and I want to fuse what I have picked up from them. I ventured into the music industry this year and I have collaborated with a few popular names in the music industry. I have worked with Cal_Vin, Calvin Treazy where I feature on a track on his debut EP — Young and Getting It. So far I have a few tracks but one to note is the one that I did with a local producer Msiz’ K, the track is called Just Say. I have other tracks that are yet to be released,” she said.
Lee McHoney has so far only had a single live performance but hopes to have an opportunity to have more live performances.
“My first live performance was at the Chibuku Road to Fame competition this year. I love singing and hope to perform more at other events,” she said.
Being a computer engineer and pursuing a career in music, Lee McHoney said as she was yet to find a job she would follow her dream.
“I have a supportive family, they support my musical aspirations. I studied Computer Engineering at Fort Hare University in South Africa but I am yet to find a job,” she said. Speaking about the music industry in Bulawayo Lee McHoney said she felt it was improving.
“The industry has improved significantly over the years and I want to be a part of the people that will go down in history, as the ones who shaped it. There is however an issue, being a woman in this industry isn’t quite easy, most of the time guys overshadow you because they are connected but I will make a name for myself,” she said.
