LEGEND Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria has opened up on the health challenges which have been dogging him for some time.
The Khiama Boys leader says he performed at the 44th Uhuru celebrations in Murambidza last week while battling excruciating pain.
He has been complaining of cramps affecting his legs and hands.
So dire is Madzibaba’s condition that he no longer drives long distances.
Madzibaba said the pain was taking its toll on him.
“I am really in pain nowadays due to a condition believed to have been triggered by hypertension and diabetes.
“I was first diagnosed with the two ailments in 2000 when I was a truck driver but I didn’t know that the situation would worsen one day.
“When it’s cold, my feet, hands and legs get numb to the extent that I sometimes collapse.
“The condition worsened in the past few years and I can say I am one person who has endured a lot of pain even though I don’t show it as a man,” he said.
Madzibaba said he performed at the Uhuru bash by the grace of God.
“To be honest, I was unwell during the build-up to the Murambinda bash.
“The pain was too much and I decided that I would not drive to Murambinda since it’s a long distance for me.
“I’m glad that we managed to finish our slot and the fans enjoyed it.
“Deep down my heart, I was unwell and I would like to thank the Lord for his grace.”
Madzibaba said he has groomed a lead guitarist to provide cover when he is unwell.
“As a music teacher, I will never stop grooming young artists who are willing to learn and one of the guys we are teaching is called Dennis Farawu.
“He has mastered the lead guitar and I do expect to see him working with Godknows Lindirani, my backing vocalist.
“I am just preparing these guys to be able to hold on their own when I am ill,” he said.
Madzibaba said he has been busy in the studio working on his 30th album.
“Of course I am unwell but we won’t stop working in our quest to produce new music.
“I am also in the process of recording a single with founder members of Khiama Boys like Alick Macheso and Zaka.
“Godknows will also help us on backing vocals while two drummers – Dzarimba and Chokumanyara – are also part of the project.”
